What Does the term Pest Forecasting mean? ( Any Infestation which will occur the)

PEST FORECASTING

The term pest forecasting means, the prediction of the severity of a growing pest population which can cause huge economic damage to the crop.

They systematically recorded data on pest population or damage over a long period of time along with other variable factors, this affects the development of pests and may be helpful in forecasting the pest incidence which will be taken every year.

This prediction depends upon the characteristics/biology of a pest and the meteorological factors. This forecasting guides the farmers about the timing and biology of pest incidence when to start to eliminate blanket applications when to reduce pesticide amounts and achieve quality results.

The farmers can take timely action by applying various pest control measures to harvest maximum returns.

TYPES OF FORECASTING

SHORT TERM FORECASTING

This is based on current or past conditions. This covers a particular season, the pest population here is then sampled from a particular area within a crop using an appropriate sampling technique, and the relationship is established between weather data and the progress in pest infestation.

LONG TERM FORECASTING

These forecasts are based on past research and the possible effect of weather on the pest population and cover a large area. The data are collected over a number of years on a wide seasonal range and from different areas.
